Low Glycemic Index
The glycemic index of a food is how quickly the body absorbs the sugar found in food. White potatoes and white bread are good examples of foods with high glycemic indexes.
Although there are different types of food containing sugar, however in some cases the process of sugar absorbtion is actually very slow. In some cases the body might not even absorb the sugar before it passes through the digestive system. However, the sugar in some other foods get into the body with high speed and get stored away in the fat cells.
The sugar in high glycemic indexed foods when consumed triggers the body to release insulin. Insulin tells the fat cells to start absorbing all the sugar in order to get it out of the blood system. Once the sugar is gone, the body's blood sugar levels drops and the hunger strikes again.
High carb foods drenched in sugar-sauce have an incredibly high glycemic index. The body is overwhelmed with sugar. It releases massive amounts of insulin and all of that sugar goes straight into fat cells. This causes the body to react to the subsequent decrease of blood sugar levels as a danger sign and becomes hungry again.
Soy protein has a low-glycemic index. This means that soy protein does not cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels after consumption. |
